Road Race

The Alabama Senior Olympics does not host its own Road Race.

To participate in the Alabama Senior Olympics, participants must register with the Alabama Senior Olympics and with the host of the Road Race in which the athlete will participate.

For Alabama Senior Olympics, we are using Road Races that are being held around the state.

After all road races have been completed, times will be compared with other athletes that have registered with the ASO and the top three in each division will be awarded an ASO medal.

PACKET/BACK PICKUP

We are attempting to have a table at the different race locations for athletes to pick up their packet/bag. Athletes do not need these to participate in the race.

The bags will contain the athlete’s t-shirt and items donated by sponsors. If there is no Alabama Senior Olympics registration table at the event, the athletes bag will be mailed to them. Each athlete will receive one bag.

ASO AWARDS

Awards will be presented for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for each event within each age division once all races have been completed and times are compared .

NSGA QUALIFYING

1. All athletes who complete a 5K or 10K Road Race at a 2026 NSGA Qualifying State Games will qualify for the 2027 National Senior Games.

2. Athletes who reside in a state that does not offer a 5K or 10K road race may qualify for those events by meeting the “limited” event qualifying criteria in Rule D. Since ASO does not host their own 5k or 10K, Alabama residence may use a race chosen by ASO or file a Limited Event Form for NSGA qualifying (Rule D).

DOUBLE MEDALING/QUALIFYING

The Alabama Senior Olympics (ASO) is an open state and welcomes out-of-state participants. Out-of-state athletes are eligible to medal and to qualify for the National Senior Games; however, they do not take a qualifying position or medal away from an Alabama resident.

If an out-of-state participant places in the top three of their division, they will receive the medal earned and any qualifying position in accordance with NSGA rules for each sport. The ASO will then award medals to the top three Alabama athletes and qualify Alabama residents according to NSGA qualifying rules for each sport (see Rule H).
